Prime Minister Donald Tusk delivered an address to the nation, stressing a historic moment for Poland. In his speech he pointed to the state’s growing strength, the importance of work and ambitious plans for the future that are meant to strengthen Poland’s position in Europe and the world.
A New Beginning – the Historical Context of the Address
Donald Tusk’s address came at a special time: 1 May is not only Labour Day but also the 21st anniversary of Poland’s accession to the European Union. The prime minister also referred to the millennium of the coronation of Bolesław the Brave, recalling the long and rich history of the Polish state.
Tusk stressed that Poland is “a thousand-year-old state that everyone must reckon with”, and that national holidays and the white-and-red flags are meant to be a symbol of Poland’s awakening power.

The prime minister emphasised that the strength of the state comes from the success of its citizens. In his speech the prime minister presented an ambitious economic vision, called the “National Piast Doctrine”. Its pillars are:

- Protecting national interests in international economic relations
Tusk did not hide that achieving these goals requires courage, strength and skill, but stressed that “Poland’s potential is undeniable, and we know how to unleash it”.
Security and International Standing
The Strongest Army in Centuries
Facing uncertainty and conflict beyond the eastern border, the prime minister announced further expansion of the Polish army. “We are building an army like Poland has not had for centuries – super strong and modern, an army for winning” stressed Tusk.
Poland – a Key Voice in Europe
The prime minister noted that Poland’s voice in Europe “has not sounded this strong in unremembered times”. Poland is today respected and listened to, and no significant decision on the continent can be made without its participation.
Challenges and Prospects – Looking to the Future
Tusk also referred to the difficult times Poles have lived through. He pointed to the return of uncertainty, brutality and egoism to world politics, and to the importance of attachment to values and responsibility for the community.
Among the positive highlights the prime minister also mentioned Poles’ achievements, such as the upcoming mission of Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski – the first Pole in space in half a century.

Donald Tusk’s address was not only a summary of past achievements but above all an announcement of bold actions ahead. The prime minister called for unity and pride in national successes, stressing that “Poland is a great dream”, which today is becoming reality thanks to the joint effort of its citizens.
