Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski, likened online to Howard Wolowitz from “The Big Bang Theory”, hasn’t slowed down since returning on July 15. He has already appeared on a TV pierogi taste test and at the Łódź Summer Festival. Is this building his image or damaging it?
A Galactic Media Debut
I was in space – that message appears in almost every appearance. Nearly two weeks have passed since the Dragon Grace capsule landed, and the astronaut has managed to:
- appear on TVP’s “Pytanie na śniadanie”, where he compared pierogi from orbit with traditional ones,
- sign autographs during the Łódź Summer Festival, trying to outshine Doda,
- take part in events with his wife, KO MP Aleksandra Uznańska-Wiśniewska.
Breakfast TV – Mission "Pierogi"
The pierogi with cabbage and mushrooms that the astronaut took to the ISS became a media hit. TVP in liquidation made use of the topic: on “Pytanie na śniadanie”, Uznański-Wiśniewski had to compare the taste of the space version with the traditional portion served in the studio. Although the segment was meant to be light-hearted, comments quickly appeared online saying it “advertises pierogi instead of popularising science”.
Łódź Summer Festival – Clash With Doda
The astronaut and his wife Aleksandra Uznańska-Wiśniewska, a KO MP, appeared at the festival, causing a sensation. When they handed out autographs in the crowd during Doda’s concert, the singer reacted: “It would be good if he came back down to Earth”. The internet picked up the comeback, and memes linking him to Howard Wolowitz began circulating on X (formerly Twitter).
