This time, Płock police officers became the heroes of an unusual case: they recovered a „kidnapped” gorilla. No, it’s not a wild animal from the jungle. It’s a decorative figure that became the centerpiece of the decor in one of Płock’s restaurants. The story, though amusing at first glance, shows how important it is for the police to get involved even in seemingly trivial matters.
Theft of a Gorilla
It all began a few weeks ago in the heart of Płock. A striking, tall gorilla figure made of durable material, the icon of the decor, disappeared from one of the popular eateries. The owners saw it not only as an ornament but as a symbol of their business. „The gorilla was an honored guest at the entrance. It caught customers’ attention and gave the place a unique atmosphere” – representatives of the restaurant recalled in their conversation with the police.
The theft was not random: the perpetrator acted deliberately, removing the figure at night when the restaurant was empty. The value of the lost „animal” was estimated at nearly 3,000 zlotys. At first, the owners thought it was simple vandalism, but they quickly reported the case to the police. They were right to do so, because, as it turned out, this „kidnapped gorilla” was going to return home sooner than anyone could have expected.
Police Chase: From Płock to Kutno
The case landed in the hands of experienced officers from the Property Crime Department of the Płock City Police Headquarters. They, under the command of Sub-Inspector Monika Jakubowska, got straight to work. „Our investigation moved at full speed. We checked surveillance footage, questioned witnesses and analyzed leads” – the police say in an official statement.
The search quickly gained momentum. Officers picked up a trail leading beyond Płock, into the neighboring Kutno County. There, in a hidden location, they found the figure, intact and undamaged. „It was like a scene from an action movie: we pulled up, secured the evidence and… carefully loaded the gorilla into the patrol car” – officers joke unofficially. The recovered statue, weighing several dozen kilograms, offered no resistance and calmly made the trip back to Płock.
After arriving at headquarters, the gorilla did not go straight back to the restaurant. Instead, while the paperwork was completed, it took an honored place next to… a Christmas tree. „It was a meme-worthy sight. Our 'new recruit’ in a police setting added some sparkle to the Christmas atmosphere” – laughs one of the headquarters employees.
Charges and Reflection: Punishment for the „Kidnapping”
The end of the case is just as satisfying as its intriguing beginning. A 28-year-old local resident, suspected of theft, was detained and charged. The man admitted guilt, explaining that he acted on impulse. He faces up to 5 years in prison – a reminder that even stealing decorations has consequences.
The restaurant owners are clearly relieved and grateful. „They admitted they doubted the gorilla would return to its honored place” – the police state in their summary. Today the figure once again stands at its post, welcoming guests and reminding everyone of the strength of the local community. „We thank the officers for their determination. This is not only the recovery of an object, but also a sense of security” – the representatives of the restaurant add.
