On 11 June 2026, exactly one year after the tragic death of Klaudia K., the trial of 20-year-old Yomeykert R.-S., a Venezuelan citizen, opened at the District Court in Toruń.
Klaudia K., 24, a PhD student at the Nicolaus Copernicus University and a bartender, was attacked on the night of 11 to 12 June 2025 in Glazja Park in Toruń. According to the prosecution, the defendant struck her dozens of times with a knife to the head, neck and chest. The woman fought for her life for almost two weeks and died on 27 June 2025 without regaining consciousness.
In addition to the charge of murder with particular cruelty, Yomeykert R.-S. was also charged with attempted rape and with threatening a witness who came to the woman’s aid.
Course of the trial
From the start of the investigation, the defendant has pleaded not guilty and has consistently refused to give testimony. Forensic psychiatrists found him fully responsible for his actions at the time of the offence. The charges he faces carry a sentence of life imprisonment.
The case has stirred enormous emotion in Toruń from the outset. After Klaudia’s death, thousands of residents took part in a Silent March, and in Glazja Park flowers, candles and letters from residents still appear spontaneously to this day.
Klaudia’s family and loved ones are hoping for a strict and just verdict. The trial is attracting wide media attention.
