On June 11, 2026, exactly one year after the tragic death of Claudia K., a trial of 20-year-old Yomeykert R.-S., a Venezuelan citizen, began before the Circuit Court in Toruń.
24-year-old Claudia K., PhD student at Nicolaus Copernicus University and bartender, was attacked on the night of 11 to 12 June 2025 in Glasia Park, Toruń. According to the D.A.'s office, the defendant stabbed her with several dozen stab wounds to the head, neck and chest. The woman struggled for her life for almost two weeks and died on June 27, 2025 without regaining consciousness.
In addition to the charge of murder with particular cruelty, Yomeykert R.-S. also heard allegations of attempted rape and a criminal threat against a witness who rushed a woman to help.
Process
The defendant has not been guilty since the beginning of the investigation and has consistently refused to explain. The psychiatrists found him fully sane at the time of the act. For what he is accused of, he is facing a life sentence.
From the very beginning, the case was very emotional in Toruń. After the death of Claudia, thousands of residents took part in the Silence March, and flowers, candles, and letters from residents appear in the Glasia Park.
The family and loved ones of Claudio hope for a harsh and just sentence. The process is of broad media interest.
