On May 20, 2026, Meta began one of the largest slowdown waves in her history. In a few hours, work lost approximately 8,000 people – that is, 10% of the global crew. Notifications were sent by e-mail (in Singapore at 4:00 a.m.), and workers from the USA and Europe were recommended to work from home.
It is officially "restructuring and increasing efficiency". Unofficially – Meta massively cuts costs to continue pumping billions into artificial intelligence.
What does this mean for regular users?
For several months now, complaints about Meta's platforms have intensified:
- AI algorithms massively ban accounts for "nothing" (false positive),
- appeals and support practically do not exist – AI decisions are final and unreserved,
- More and more errors in feed, glycs, disappearing posts and Stories,
- a dramatic decline in content moderation quality.
People write plainly: "Instead of people sitting now, AI, who bans for anything and nobody can fix it."
Exemptions hit mostly engineering, product and content moderation departments. That means the problems will only come.
Are Facebook and Instagram really losing ground?
Mark Zuckerberg has been openly saying the future is AI and metaverse for months. Meanwhile, ordinary users feel that the platforms are becoming increasingly toxic, free and "stupid". More and more people are moving to TikToka, Threads or X (formerly twitter)and Facebook is treated as "a place for old people".
