"Stranger Things: Other Worlds" Netflix Orders 1950s Prequel Series

On Friday, November 6, Stranger Things Day, Netflix officially announced a live-action prequel to the hit series. The show „Stranger Things: Other Worlds” (orig. „Other Worlds: A Stranger Things Adventure”) will arrive on the platform in 2028.

Netflix Poland published the announcement on X, referring to the setting: „Before Hawkins, there was Marion”.

New Characters, New Era

According to the platform’s description, this is a prequel set in the 1950s, so before the events of „Stranger Things” and before the stage play „Stranger Things: The First Shadow”. The series is meant to introduce new characters, a new setting and new mythology, rooted in the DNA of the original. The plot remains a secret.

Who Is Behind It

The creators are the brothers Matt and Ross Duffer, along with Kate Trefry, a writer on „Stranger Things” and author of the play „The First Shadow”. Trefry will serve as showrunner and co-creator. The first three episodes will be directed by Joe Wright, a Golden Globe winner known for „Atonement”. Among the producers, Netflix also names Shawn Levy.

Jinny Howe, Netflix’s head of scripted series in the US and Canada, stated: „Stranger Things has always belonged to the fans, and their passion made the show a global phenomenon.” She added that the platform wants to give viewers a „new dimension” of this universe.

Another Chapter of the Franchise

This is the first live-action spin-off of the original series. Previously, the universe was expanded with the animated „Stranger Things: Tales From ’85”, set in winter 1985, and the aforementioned stage play. Netflix first revealed the live-action spin-off in 2022. Stars of the original, including Millie Bobby Brown, have appeared in other news stories here, but nothing suggests they will return in the new production. The cast has not been announced. A precise premiere date has also not been given.
