WoW: Forever Sets Record as Blizzard Announces Biggest Launch in Series History

Blizzard has said that WoW: Forever, which launched on November 4, achieved the biggest launch in World of Warcraft history in terms of peak concurrent players. However, the company did not provide any figures.

What Blizzard Announced

The official Warcraft account on X published a thank-you post to players overnight from November 6 to 7. According to it, WoW: Forever has had „the biggest launch in WoW history in terms of peak concurrent players” and „the largest number of returning players in WoW history.”

The post contains no numbers or information about what the previous record was. It is therefore unclear by how much the result exceeds past launches, including Wrath of the Lich King and WoW Classic in 2019. Blizzard has not published official subscriber data for years.

The Only Hard Data: Servers

The studio has only released concrete numbers about infrastructure. In a post from November 5 (Polish time), Warcraft wrote that the game runs on 3,924 virtual machines, 251,136 GB of memory and 70,480 CPU cores.

Estimates From Outside Blizzard

Data from Streams Charts, cited in foreign publications, indicates that the World of Warcraft category on Twitch had around 1.12 million concurrent viewers on launch day. This is close to the WoW Classic record. However, viewers are not players, so this does not confirm the record announced by Blizzard.

Fans are also circulating an estimate of around 2 million concurrent players, based on a community-made counter add-on. Blizzard has not confirmed it.
