Science-fiction fans have a reason to celebrate! After 14 years of the "Stargate Universe" final, Amazon MGM Studios officially announced work on a completely new series in the iconic universe Stargate. The show will only hit the platform Prime Videoand behind the controls stands a veteran franchise – Martin Gero.
Who's behind the project?
Martin Gero, who began his career as a story editor at "Stargate: Atlantis", and later worked on all three classic series (SG-1, Atlantis and Universe), became a showrunner and major screenwriter. In a special announcement video, he emphasizes with enthusiasm:
"It will NOT be reboot! This is a new, courageous chapter that respects the legacy of the series and at the same time takes us into an emotional, ambitious future."
There are no shortages of legends in the crew:
- Brad Wright (co-writer SG-1, Atlantis and Universe) – consulting producer
- Joe Mallozzi (a multi-year producer and screenwriter of all three series) – consulting producer
- Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin (songwriters of the 1994 film)
- Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell (producers including Obi-Wan Kenobi and Monarch: Legacy of Monsters)
What do we know?
- The series will be a continuation of the universe – so the gate opens to return favorite characters (O’Neill? Carter? Sheppard?)? Everything possible!).
- So far, no information on the cast, date the premiere or the exact plot.
- The Prime Video budget finally means planets that will not look like the forests under Vancouver!
In a statement, Gero thanked fans who kept the gate open for years at conventions and during marathon episodes: "This is for you. And for new viewers – I promise something absolutely extraordinary."
Why is it such a big comeback?
Since the 1994 film with Kurt Russell and James Spader, the Stargate universe has grown to over 350 television episodes, three DVDs and millions of faithful fans. After Amazon took over MGM in 2021, rumors have been circulating for years – they have now become reality.
