A series prequel to the famous adaptations of Stephen King’s novel is coming! “To: Welcome to Derry” (“Welcome to Derry”) is the newest horror offering from HBO Max, and fans of the franchise can now watch the official trailer for this long-awaited production.
What's in store?
The series is set in the fictional town of Derry, Maine, in 1962, that is, as much as 27 years before the events known from the 2017 film “It” and the 2019 “It Chapter Two”, both adaptations of King’s bestselling novel. It is then that Pennywise, the creepy clown, once again awakens from his hibernation to spread terror among the residents of Derry.
The series is meant to deepen the origins of the evil lurking in the town and show the tragic events that left a lasting mark on the local community. At the center of the story is an African American family that moves to Derry and faces local hostility and mysterious disappearances of children. The series’ storylines are loosely inspired by fragments of King’s novel concerning Derry’s dramatic past, including the Black Spot fire, whose consequences also resonate in other works of the master of horror.
Cast and series premiere date
The star-studded cast includes, among others, Taylour Paige, Jovan Adepo, Chris Chalk, James Remar, Stephen Rider, Madeleine Stowe and Rudy Mancuso. Bill Skarsgård returns to his iconic role of Pennywise . The series is created by Andy Muschietti and Barbara Muschietti, the creators of the two previous film adaptations of “It”.
The series “To: Welcome to Derry” consists of nine episodes and will debut on HBO Max in fall 2025 (the premiere is planned for October).
The creators promise numerous references to the novel and previous adaptations, as well as entirely new stories of Derry’s residents. We will witness how evil exploits human fears and weaknesses, not only supernatural ones but also purely human ones.
