Netflix Releases Trailer for Pride and Prejudice Series, Sets December 3 Premiere

Netflix released the first full trailer for the miniseries „Pride and Prejudice” starring Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden on Wednesday, October 28. All six episodes will arrive on the platform on Thursday, December 3.

According to the Netflix Tudum material from October 28, this is the series’ official debut, and the trailer is meant to highlight themes of longing and restrained emotion. As reported by Collider, the production is being marketed as a faithful adaptation of Jane Austen’s 1813 novel. The trailer itself runs about 2 minutes and 19 seconds (according to Comic Basics).

What We See in the Trailer

As Deadline describes, the material opens with a scene in which Elizabeth Bennet (Emma Corrin) and her sister Jane (Freya Mavor) lie on a roof and talk about the future. Next we see the chaotic Bennet household and the arrival of wealthy bachelors who upend the family’s life. One scene shows Lizzie and Darcy in a tense conversation at a ball. The trailer begins with the famous line about the truth universally acknowledged.

As The Hollywood Reporter notes, in the trailer Elizabeth tells her sister that one day she will become either a governess and an old maid, or a wife and mother.

Cast and Creators

Elizabeth Bennet is played by Emma Corrin, known among other things for „The Crown”. Mr Darcy is played by Jack Lowden, whom viewers know from „Slow Horses”. According to Deadline and Globe TV, Olivia Colman takes on the role of Mrs Bennet, while Rufus Sewell plays Mr Bennet. The cast also includes Hopey Parish, Hollie Avery and Rhea Norwood as the other Bennet sisters, as well as Louis Partridge and Jamie Demetriou (according to Collider and The Hollywood Reporter).

The screenplay was written by Dolly Alderton, author of „Everything I Know About Love”. It was directed by Euros Lyn, creator of „Heartstopper”. The executive producers are Alderton, Lyn, Laura Lankester, Will Johnston and Louise Mutter of Lookout Point. Emma Corrin also has a producer credit for the first time. The production is overseen by Lisa Osborne.

„Pride and Prejudice” is a timeless story, because the emotions in the book are just as relevant today as they were in 1812. — Dolly Alderton, quoted by The Hollywood Reporter

When It Premieres

The series will arrive on Netflix on Thursday, December 3, and the platform will make all six episodes available at once. According to Tudum, the production is rated TV-PG. The premiere was announced earlier: Netflix showed the first teaser in February and new character images in September (according to Fiction Horizon).

What It Means for Viewers in Poland

The series will be available to Netflix subscribers in Poland from December 3, with no additional fees beyond the subscription. The premiere falls at the start of the winter viewing season, about three weeks before Christmas. At the time of publication, no information had been given about a Polish dub or subtitles. No time has been announced for when the episodes will appear in the Polish catalogue. Austen has been adapted many times, and the six-episode format gives creators more room for the plot than the two-hour 2005 film, as Comic Basics points out.
