Katy Perry has strongly reacted to the use of her song „Firework” by the official White House account on TikTok. The video showed American military strikes on targets in Iran, and a fragment of the track with its characteristic „boom, boom, boom” was synchronized with the explosions.
The White House post on TikTok was captioned: „Iran has been warned”.
Singer’s Statement
Perry wrote on the X platform:
„I am deeply outraged and furious to see that „Firework” has been used on the White House’s TikTok account as a backing track for videos of military attacks. I did not consent to this, no one asked me, and I absolutely do not endorse it.”
She added that she wrote the song as an anthem of hope, healing and inner strength for people going through the darkest moments in their lives.
„Using a message about self-worth and support as a soundtrack for destruction and violence is a complete violation of everything my song represents. My music is meant to unite people, not to celebrate war.”
Context
The White House video quickly gained millions of views. After Perry’s reaction, the sound from the original post was removed.
The case fits into a broader trend: other artists have previously criticized the administration for using their songs in propaganda materials without permission.
