A Dramatic Start to the Day – Shooting at Fort Stewart
Active shooter at Fort Stewart in the state of Georgia. Reports of casualties, probably seven. The base has been closed. The base was closed at 11:04. A rescue operation and police intervention are underway. The situation is still developing.
Fort Stewart, the largest US Army base east of the Mississippi, was suddenly placed under lockdown after an active shooter was reported in the area of the 2nd Armored Division (2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team). Security and a swift response by the services saved the lives of many soldiers.
Swift Response by Services and Safety First
It has been confirmed that the shooter at Fort Stewart was previously employed at the base. As seen here, in 2020 at the base’s shooting range.
At 11:04 local time, the base was closed, and soldiers and employees were ordered to remain indoors, with doors and windows locked. Security forces quickly brought the situation under control:
- The shooter has been detained and is currently in custody.
- There is no longer any threat to residents of the base and the surrounding area.
Victims and Support for Those Affected'
While in close contact with local law enforcement, Marty, the girls and I are saddened by today’s tragedy at Ft. Stewart. In our hearts and prayers we remember the victims, their families and all who answered the call to serve, and we ask all Georgians to do the same.
As a result of the incident, five soldiers were injured. They were immediately transported to Winn Army Hospital on the Fort Stewart grounds. Fortunately, according to the latest information, none of them is in immediate danger of losing their lives.
Fort Stewart is not just a huge base – it is a small town where, besides soldiers, their families live, along with some 1,400 students across three school facilities. To protect the safety of children and young people, schools on the base and in the immediate vicinity have been closed.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp responded immediately, appealing to residents to support the injured and their families. The White House spokesperson, meanwhile, assured that the president is being kept up to date on the situation.
