Jonathan Andic, son of Mango founder Isak Andic, has been placed under investigation over the death of his father, Isak Andic. Spanish police suspect the tragic fall from a cliff may not have been an accident.
Who was Isak Andic?
Isak Andic was one of Spain’s best-known entrepreneurs. Born in Turkey, he founded the brand Mango in 1984, which today is one of the world’s largest fashion houses, operating in more than 120 countries and employing over 16,000 people. Forbes estimated his fortune at around $4.5 billion.
Andic was regarded as a visionary who knew how to combine elegance with affordable prices, much like his rival Amancio Ortega, the founder of Zara. Until his death, he served as honorary chairman of Mango and was considered one of the pillars of Spanish business.
A tragic accident in the mountains
In December 2024, the media reported the death of 71-year-old Isak Andic. He had reportedly set out on a hike with his son Jonathan along the Les Feixades mountain trail near Montserrat, not far from Barcelona. According to initial findings, Andic fell from a height of over 300 feet (about 100 meters), which was treated as an unfortunate accident.
However, in the following months, investigators began to have doubts about how the incident occurred. As the daily El País reported, discrepancies appeared in Jonathan’s statements. Police secured his phone and began analyzing its data.
Jonathan Andic under the investigators’ scrutiny
At the end of September 2025, a court in Barcelona changed Jonathan’s status from witness to suspect. It was noted that his relationship with his father was reportedly strained, as confirmed by Isak’s partner, former golfer Estefanía Knuth.
Despite the media speculation, the Andic family issued a statement firmly defending Jonathan. In a message sent to the media, they stressed that Jonathan is cooperating with law enforcement and is innocent. „We are convinced that the truth will soon come to light and Jonathan will be cleared of the charges,” it said.
Mango’s legacy after the tragedy
After Isak’s death, Jonathan took over as chairman of the MNG holding company, while his sisters Judit and Sarah became vice chairwomen. The company continues to grow globally, carrying on its founder’s vision. Mango CEO Toni Ruiz said in a statement that „the entire Mango family grieves with the Andic family and remains loyal to the values Isak instilled in them”.
What next for the investigation?
The investigation into Isak Andic’s death is still ongoing. Although police have not revealed new evidence, Spanish media claim the probe could last several more months. At this point, there is no conclusive evidence pointing to Jonathan’s involvement in the tragedy.
The case is attracting enormous public interest because it concerns one of the most influential business families in Spain. Regardless of the outcome of the proceedings, the fashion world has lost a man whose vision forever changed Spanish style.
