A Lufthansa Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner suffered serious damage at Frankfurt Airport. While parked at the gate, the aircraft’s nose landing gear collapsed, looking like a classic „nose down”.
The incident occurred on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Frankfurt Airport (FRA). The aircraft, registration D-ABPQ, was preparing to depart on flight LH450. As the crew and ground handling staff were ready for departure, the nose gear suddenly collapsed and the front of the aircraft struck the apron.
Footage from the airport shows the huge Dreamliner „kneeling” on its nose at the gate. Fortunately, no one was injured – no one was in direct danger.
What happened?
According to preliminary information from Lufthansa and the airport, the cause was most likely a technical problem with the landing gear mechanism. The aircraft was immediately taken out of service. Flight LH450 was cancelled, and passengers were rebooked onto other connections.
The Boeing 787-9 is one of the most advanced widebody aircraft in the Lufthansa fleet. The damage to the aircraft’s nose means repairs will be costly and time-consuming – the Dreamliner will most likely be out of the flight schedule for an extended period.
