A major scandal has erupted in the Sejm. At a meeting of the Parliamentary Team for Child Protection in the Process of Parental Separation, a man who has a final conviction for a sexual offence against a child and is listed in the public register of paedophiles took the floor. His presence has caused outrage and raised many questions about the procedures for inviting experts.
How did this happen?
The team meeting, held on 4 August, was to address, among other things, maintenance tables, that is, legal issues concerning children in parental separation proceedings. The man was invited as a representative of a social organisation and was allowed to speak at the session. The pass office procedures of the Sejm check people’s past for court rulings or bans on entering the parliament premises. However, the verification did not include a specific register of sex offenders, which allowed the convicted paedophile to take part.
Reactions and outrage
Meeting participants and social organisations have voiced firm opposition. Danuta Zduńczyk, president of the “Single Parents” Association, speaks of a serious breach of parliamentary ethics and of public trust in institutions. Magdalena Kobiałko, chair of the BoKochamZaBardzo association, stresses that the participation of a person convicted of abusing a child is absolutely unacceptable and clearly shows how important verification in the relevant registers is.
What are the Sejm authorities promising?
Deputy Marcin Józefaciuk, chair of the team who led the meeting, admitted that the situation was exceptionally unpleasant and scandalous. He assured that procedures will now be tightened and that the vetting of people invited to similar meetings will include a check of the paedophile register, to prevent a repeat of such an incident. At the same time, he stressed that the meeting took place in line with current procedures and that no one was put at risk.
The Left under fire: who is responsible?
It was representatives of The Left (Lewica) who organised the meetings of the team meant to protect children. Paradoxically, it was they who allowed a situation in which a paedophile was given the role of an expert and could present legislative proposals concerning the safety of the youngest. Questions about responsibility keep coming: was the verification of invited guests done knowingly, or did a shocking negligence occur? A growing number of voices accuse The Left of a lack of basic caution and unacceptable procedural errors.

Łukasz Litewka's bold reaction
While most politicians remained silent, Łukasz Litewka commented on the matter clearly and firmly on social media. His Facebook post struck a chord with internet users.
“All right, except that this man is a paedophile. […] A paedophile as an expert in the Sejm… A scandal? No, that’s too small a word. It’s ***** incredible. Children are the most important and all of them must be safe.“
Litewka was not afraid to call things by their name and directly blamed the organisers, the politicians of The Left. He pointed out that the silence of deputies and their lack of any reaction deepens the crisis of trust in state institutions.
At a time when politicians often avoid difficult topics, Łukasz Litewka’s stance deserves exceptional recognition. His voice has become a symbol of the fight for children’s safety and of demanding accountability from politicians.
Necessary change of procedures and accountability for those responsible
The event shows how urgently the security rules in the Sejm need to be revised. The Left must answer questions about its role in organising the team and in vetting guests. Child protection cannot be a playground for experiments or negligence.
