Warsaw has for years struggled with irresponsible drivers who treat the city like their own racetrack. This time the case gained exceptional attention thanks to a recording that spread across social media and reached the police.
On Wednesday, 25 June, capital city officers detained two men – Polish citizens aged 38 and 33. They also secured a BMW and equipment used to record and publish dangerous traffic incidents.
How the incident unfolded and how the arrest happened
It all began with a video posted on Instagram by a user hiding behind the pseudonym „Mr. Badass”. The recording documents a BMW M6 G-Power travelling at around 390 km/h on the S79, a wide road running alongside Chopin Airport in Warsaw. The driver held a phone in one hand and the steering wheel in the other, demonstrating a complete lack of responsibility towards other road users. The recording quickly reached the police „Stop agresji drogowej” (Stop Road Aggression) mailbox, run by the Warsaw Metropolitan Police Headquarters. This tool allows residents to report dangerous behaviour on the road, such as reckless driving, cutting off other vehicles or failing to yield right of way. Thanks to the swift response of the police, the perpetrators were detained and the vehicle was secured.
Consequences of irresponsible driving: more than just fines
Behaviour of this kind has serious consequences. Exceeding the speed limit by several dozen kilometres per hour in a city risks high fines, penalty points and even the loss of a driving licence. In cases of extreme recklessness, such as this one on the S79, the matter may go to court, and drivers may face harsh sentences.
The police stress that there is no social or legal tolerance for such behaviour. Every road user has the right to safe driving, and aggression and recklessness on the road are a real threat to life and health.
