The District Prosecutor’s Office in Strzelce Opolskie has sent an indictment to the Regional Court in Opole against 18-year-old Łukasz G. for the double murder in Kadłub. According to investigators, he sought media attention through the crime.
What the prosecution alleges
The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Opole announced the filing of the indictment on Friday, 6 November. The accused was 17 at the time of the crimes. The killings took place on the night of 25 to 26 February 2026 in Kadłub, in Strzelce County.
The victims were the accused’s 38-year-old stepfather and the stepfather’s 86-year-old grandmother. According to the indictment, the young man attacked two sleeping people. He allegedly struck his stepfather many times on the head with a hammer and a machete, and hit the elderly woman five times on the head with an axe.
The prosecution charges him with two murders committed with particular cruelty and with a motive deserving special condemnation.
Online recordings and the motive of notoriety
Investigators established that the accused recorded both killings on his phone. In between the crimes, he posted material on social media related to his stepfather’s death. He then changed clothes, compiled the recordings and uploaded them online. He also filmed a video in which he confessed to the acts. He delayed publishing it until the afternoon of 27 February, said prosecutor Stanisław Bar, spokesman for the Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Opole.
According to the prosecution, the evidence gathered allows the conclusion that the accused wanted media attention. He also acted with particular cruelty, the authors of the indictment note.
Arrest, detention and possible sentence
After the crime, the perpetrator fled. He boarded a bus heading to Krapkowice and hid in riverside thickets, where police detained him at around 1 p.m. We described the manhunt in our article about the arrest of the 17-year-old after a many-hours-long manhunt.
Already during his first interrogation, the suspect confessed to the charged acts and gave extensive testimony. He has been held in pretrial detention since his arrest. The Regional Court in Opole will decide on his liability and sentence.
The accused faces 15 to 30 years in prison. Because he was not yet 18 at the time of the crime, he cannot be sentenced to life imprisonment. The prosecution already addressed this issue at a press conference after the arrest.
Echoes of the case
The crime drew a response online. A few days later, Pomeranian police detained an 18-year-old from Gdańsk who had posted comments calling for further killings. We reported on this in our article about the detained copycat. The date of the trial is not yet known.
