With great sadness, the Polish music scene said goodbye to Damian Krępa, known as Bas Tajpan. The artist, who was considered a precursor of Polish reggae music, died on 16 July 2025 after a long and hard fight against cancer. He was 47.
Artist from the border of reggae and hip-hop
Bas Tajpan was born and his whole life was associated with Dąbrowa Górnicza. In his rich achievements he combined reggae, hip-hop and raggamuffin styles, working with many well-known performers such as Peja, Paluch, Focus, Hemp Gru or Company. He was not only known as a songwriter and singer, but also as a solo artist and a member of several bands, including 13 Chilli Half Fuchsa or Ushat Sound System. Among his iconic recordings is the track "New Protest". Besides music, Bas Tajpan was also a well-known Lego block enthusiast. He participated in the program "Lego Masters", where he finished second.

Long Struggle against Disease
He started fighting cancer a few years ago. The disease temporarily excluded him from his artistic life, but last year Bas Tajpan returned with new recordings and concerts. In January 2024 he himself spoke of his lung disease and treatment, with a characteristic sense of humor and optimism. Unfortunately, despite his hope and commitment to treatment, the disease suddenly returned and gave him no chance.
President Dąbrowa Górnicza, Marcin Bazylak, who officially informed about the artist's death, emphasized the great heart and involvement of Bas Taipei in the city's life: ,,He was not only a talented musician, but above all a good man who always supported others and engaged in community activities. He left a trail of goodness, empathy and love" – he wrote.
