Kraków Mayor Łukasz Gibała has invited residents to a gathering in memory of the victims of Saturday’s attack. It will take place on Monday, 9 November, at 8:00 p.m. at the corner of the Main Market Square and Sławkowska Street.
The mayor published the invitation on X on Sunday, 8 November. He wrote that in this „difficult time” residents should show solidarity and that Kraków „will always be a proud city, but also a hospitable and open one”.
Venue and time
The meeting will take place at the corner of the Main Market Square and Sławkowska Street, the area from which, on Saturday after 3:00 p.m., a masked assailant began shooting at random people. Six people were killed and 16 were injured, including two police officers. We described the details of the attack in our article about the arrest of the shooter on the Market Square.
As of publication, the city has not released the rally programme, a list of speeches, or information about possible traffic disruptions and closure of part of the Market Square.
Other forms of commemoration
The city announced on X that from Monday, 9 November, from 9:00 a.m., a physical condolence book will be available in the lobby of the Kraków City Hall.
On Sunday at 4:00 p.m., Metropolitan Archbishop of Kraków Cardinal Grzegorz Ryś celebrated a Mass at the University Collegiate Church of St. Anne for the victims, the injured and their loved ones. The venue was changed from the earlier announcement, which had indicated St. Mary’s Basilica.
Gibała declared a period of mourning in Kraków until 11 November. A nationwide day of national mourning runs on Sunday, 8 and Monday, 9 November, according to a decree issued by President Karol Nawrocki.
Weather
The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management (IMGW) has issued a warning for dense fog in Kraków and the region. It is in force from Sunday at 6:00 p.m. until Monday at 10:00 a.m.; visibility may drop below 200 metres, and deposited rime ice may make roads and pavements slippery.
On Sunday, the mayor of Kraków also requested that the title of Honorary Citizen of Kraków be urgently conferred on police officers Artur Morański and Jakub Kulik, who intervened at the scene of the attack.
