Janusz Michałowski, one of Poland’s most distinctive stage and television actors, has died. He was 89 years old. For decades he delighted audiences with his roles in Teatr Telewizji, where he created many unforgettable characters.
The actor was born on January 1, 1937 in Augustów. The cause of death has not yet been officially announced.
The news was shared on Facebook by the Mayor of Augustów in a short post:
„Unfortunately, very sad news has reached me from Warsaw. Janusz Michałowski has passed away – a native of Augustów, an outstanding actor, a true ambassador of our city.
I had the honor of meeting Mr. Janusz. He was a truly exceptional figure. Full of class, remarkable charisma and warmth, and always carrying Augustów deep in his heart. He could speak about his hometown with incredible passion, promoting it wherever he went.
His passing has deeply moved me. It is a huge loss not only for Polish culture, but for Augustów. A man of great stature has left us.
I extend my deepest condolences to his family and loved ones.
May he rest in peace
