Opolska police are investigating the circumstances of the killing in Kadłub. 17-year-old detained after hours of manhunt 45 kilometres from the crime scene

The Opole Provincial Police Command has published an official announcement in which it describes in detail the course of service activities after a dramatic double homicide in the village of Kadłub in the shooting district. This is the first such extensive police relationship since the incident, which sheds new light on the scale of police action and evidence secured on site.

According to investigators, the crime occurred on Thursday, February 26, 2026, in a single-family house in Kadłuba. Two people were killed as a result of the attack – 87-year-old woman and 38-year-old male, both residents of the same village. The house was inhabited by a total of four people, which means that two more people at that address avoided tragedy.

The case has gone up in the night. Around 4:00 a.m., Central Bureau of Cybercrime officials received a report of drastic video material posted online on one of the social platforms. The footage presented possible scenes of murder. Thanks to a rapid analysis of CBZC, it was possible to determine both the author of the materials and the exact location of the event – the house in Kadłub.

Immediately a patrol was sent to the site from the Regional Police Headquarters in Opolskie Strzelce. Officers confirmed two deaths and secured the area. Under the supervision of the D.A., a thorough review has begun. The work was attended by forensics technicians equipped with a 3D scanner, experts and physician from the Department of Judicial Medicine of the University Clinical Hospital in Opole. Numerous biological, material, and material traces have been secured.

At the same time, one of the biggest police raids in the recent years in the region of Opole began. In the search for a 17-year-old resident of Kadłub, forces from several units were engaged:

• Police Headquarters in Opolskie Strzelce
• County Police Headquarters in Krapkowice
• Criminal Division of the Provincial Police Headquarters in Opole (including the so-called "headhunters")
• Independent Police Prevention Division in Opole
• Central Bureau of Cybercrime

The police searched both the built areas and nearby forests. Drones, tracking dogs and explosives were used. Surveillances were analysed, witnesses were questioned, and possible escape routes were determined. The actions were fully coordinated and lasted several hours.

The key moment came a few minutes after 1:00 p.m. Officers of the Criminal Division of KWP Opole detained a 17-year-old in Krapkowice County – nearly 45 kilometres from the crime scene. The teenager was hiding in the bushes in the region of the River Obiekłoga. According to the police communication, was not armed And he didn't resist. He was immediately brought to police custody.

While searching the area where he was hiding, investigators found and secured three toolsThat could have been used to commit crimes. One of them was an axe. All the items have gone to the crime lab and will be subjected to detailed testing.

In the communication, police emphasize that there is still a lot of work to be done in front of investigators. "Another intensive action to be carried out before investigators. For today, further actions are planned at the scene of the crime and with the participation of a detained 17-year-old" - the official statement states.

The case is under the supervision of the Opole District Attorney's Office. A 17-year-old will hear charges of double homicide using a dangerous tool. He's facing a life sentence.

The police's announcement does not reveal the motives for the perpetrator's action, nor the details of the content of the recordings that triggered the whole action, but all indicates that they were the key evidence that allowed us to quickly connect the facts.

This is the second official appeal of the services on this matter (after yesterday's CBZC position). The police have consistently asked the public for respect for the victims and their families – especially to refrain from spreading any drastic material and films from the scene.

The whole Opolskie region is still shaken. So far the calm village of Kadłub has become a symbol of how fast daily life can turn into a nightmare. The investigation is ongoing and will certainly bring further findings. The police assures that they are doing everything to explain the matter in the smallest detail and to answer all the questions that the local community and the whole of Poland are asking.
