Police have apprehended a copycat of the Kadłub murderer. An 18-year-old from Gdańsk posted online comments calling for further crimes

In just a few days after the gruesome double killing of an axe in the village of Kadłub in Opole, the pomorski police stopped the first copycat. An 18-year-old resident of Gdańsk was arrested for publicly praising crimes and calling for similar crimes. The case shows how quickly the tragedy from a small village in Opole became an inspiration for people looking for sensations on the Internet.

The incident occurred last Sunday (1 March 2026). Officers of the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime (CBZC) have detected disturbing comments on one of the posts concerning the tragic incident in Kadłuba. The author of the entries not only glorified the act of 17-year-old Luke G., but also openly urged others to repeat a similar slaughter. The contents appeared on a popular social platform and were drastic enough that the CBZC immediately turned the matter over to the field police.

Criminals from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Gdańsk (including officers from the areas of Przymorza and Wrzeszcz) quickly established the author's identity and address. On the same day, the 18-year-old was detained in his apartment in Gdańsk. He didn't resist. During the search, policemen secured three electronic devices – a mobile phone, a tablet and a laptop – that could be used to publish entries. The equipment went to a forensic expert in forensics.

On Monday, March 3, 2026, an 18-year-old boy heard a charge of public provocation to commit a crime and commend the crime (Articles 255 §1 and §3 of the Criminal Code). He was placed under police supervision – he did not go to temporary custody, but he must report regularly to the police station and cannot leave the country. For such a crime, he is facing imprisonment for up to three years.

In an official communication, the Municipal Police Chief in Gdańsk stressed: "The Internet does not provide full anonymity. Any action on the network may entail criminal liability. Through cooperation with the Central Cybercrime Office, it was quickly possible to eliminate the threat and show that such content would not remain without consequences."

This is the first, but probably not the last case of imitation after a loud case from Kadłub. Police across the country are monitoring the network for similar entries. Both the Opole and Pomeranian commands appeal to Internet users: don't share drastic footage from the crime scene and don't glorify the perpetrators – it's not only a lack of respect for the victims, but also a real crime.

The 18-year-old from Gdańsk remains at large under supervision, but his case will continue in court. Investigations on alerts are ongoing, and experts analyze the content of all comments and device history. The whole of Poland looks at whether after the tragedy in Kadłuba the wave of calls for violence on the Internet will be quickly strangled.
