Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced on Saturday evening that senior constable Jakub Kulik and senior constable Artur Morański had stopped the perpetrator of the attack in Kraków. Both officers are in serious condition.
The prime minister named the officers on Saturday, 7 November, at 22:33 in a post on X.
Prime minister: they probably saved many lives
Tusk wrote that the officers „probably saved many human lives, disregarding the risk of losing their own”. He added that their condition is serious, but they are under very good medical care. He concluded with the words: „All of Poland is keeping its fingers crossed for you”.
Ministry of Interior: one is fighting for his life
Earlier, at 22:38, the Ministry of Interior and Administration (MSWiA) published a statement from Minister Marcin Kierwiński. The head of the ministry assessed that the officers „acted heroically today”. He said that one of them is fighting for his life and another is injured. He appealed for respect for their sacrifice and for people in uniform.
Prime minister on the conduct of services and witnesses
At a press conference in Kraków, the prime minister said everyone was impressed by the sacrifice and heroism of the police officers. He also praised the medical rescue workers who immediately went into action, as well as bystanders. After 22:45 he wrote on X that in the face of tragedy we saw „the best in people”: the courage of the police officers, the sacrifice of the rescue workers and the selfless help of ordinary people.
Tusk also asked that in the coming hours people rely only on information from the police, the fire service, the city president and the voivode. The police ask witnesses and people with recordings to contact the nearest unit or the Kraków City Police Headquarters. The area of the Main Market Square and adjacent streets is closed due to procedural actions.
