Prime Minister Donald Tusk said on Saturday evening in Kraków that dead people had been found in the home of the perpetrator of Saturday’s attack. According to the prime minister, they may be the attacker’s parents. The victims are two women and one man.
Emergency services enter the attacker’s home
The prime minister announced the information during a meeting in Kraków, after a briefing with the services. Earlier, at a press conference, he said that an operation to enter the attacker’s home was underway. Previous statements indicate that police officers, including counter-terrorism unit officers, are carrying out activities at the attacker’s residence. The site is a family property in Ostrowiec Świętokrzyski.
Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński said earlier that one hypothesis is that the attacker took the weapon from the family home. According to the minister, his father had several registered firearms. As of publication, the identities of the people found in the home and the cause of their deaths have not been officially disclosed.
What is known about the attack
On Saturday, shortly after 3 p.m., in the area of the Main Market Square, the attacker fired from a car at random people. The Małopolska Voivodeship Office reported that six people were killed and 15 injured, including police officers. One of the officers is in serious condition. The attacker was shot and detained at the intersection of Stradomska and Dietla streets. Police confirmed he is a Polish citizen and acted alone.
The prime minister wrote on X that all the circumstances of „this crime” will be clarified, and appealed to politicians of all persuasions: „do not play with this tragedy”.
Seven prosecutors are working at the scene, who, together with the services, are securing evidence and the attacker’s whereabouts, the minister of justice said.
