Fans of alternate-history WWII shooters can finally breathe a sigh of relief. According to credible industry reports, MachineGames is working on Wolfenstein 3, the third main entry in the trilogy starring William “B.J.” Blazkowicz. The years of speculation are over: the Nazis are about to get what’s coming to them, and we’re all waiting for a bloody slaughter!
A Brief History of the Series That Crushed Nazism
The Wolfenstein series was born in 1981 as Castle Wolfenstein, but it earned its true glory with Wolfenstein 3D from 1992, the progenitor of all FPS games. MachineGames’ modern trilogy began with Wolfenstein: The New Order (2014), in which Blazkowicz fought the Nazis in an alternate reality where the Third Reich won the war. The sequel, Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus (2017), won players’ hearts with its epic story and brutal action. The spin-off Youngblood (2019), featuring the hero’s daughters, did not repeat the success, but it didn’t discourage the developers.
The studio always planned a trilogy. Back in 2018, Bethesda vice president Pete Hines confirmed work on a third part. In 2025, MachineGames co-founder Jerk Gustafsson said: “We always saw this as a trilogy… I hope we’re not done with Wolfenstein. We have a story to tell.”
What We Know About Wolfenstein 3: Development and Details
The reports broke a few days ago thanks to Jez Corden of Windows Central and Kotaku. MachineGames, fresh off the release of Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (2024), has returned to its roots. The game is in development but at an early stage, and Bethesda has not issued an official statement.
Story: We expect a continuation of Blazkowicz’s story following the events of The New Colossus. The action may move to the 1980s, featuring the hero’s daughters, Jessi and Zofia, from Youngblood. An epic clash with Nazi dictators, full of mecha-Hitlers and alternate technology, is shaping up.
Platforms: Probably PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. As a Bethesda title, it may arrive on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
When Does Wolfenstein 3 Come Out?
There is no specific date, but speculation points to 2027 or later, as development may have only started after Indiana Jones. An announcement is possible at Xbox Developer Direct in January 2026 or at Microsoft’s summer showcase. Even more intriguing: the game may be synced with a live-action series on Amazon Prime!
A Wolfenstein Series on Amazon: The Perfect Complement?
Amazon MGM Studios announced in July 2025 that it was working on a Wolfenstein series, produced by the team behind the success of Fallout TV (Kilter and Patrick Somerville). There is no release date, but rumors suggest the game and the series could launch together, creating a media offensive against the Nazis.
