Man Convicted of Murder Escapes Tennessee Prison; Manhunt Underway in US

This is not about an escape in Poland: 28-year-old Jacob Allen Morley, sentenced to life imprisonment for murder, escaped from a correctional facility in the US state of Tennessee on Sunday, October 25. Authorities have offered a reward for help in his capture.

According to the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC), staff at the Northwest Correctional Complex in Tiptonville noticed the prisoner was missing at about 11:30 p.m. on Sunday. An emergency headcount of inmates and a search of the facility were then ordered. As reported by the WKRN station, the escape was only made public on Monday, October 26.

How the escape happened

According to WKRN, citing authorities, surveillance cameras recorded Morley, in prison clothing, climbing over the facility’s fence. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) also released new footage showing the man stealing a white pickup truck parked in a lot on Keystone Drive, about 2 miles (approx. 3 km) from the prison, at around 1 a.m. Polsat News reports that the fugitive drove away in the stolen vehicle.

Who is being sought and the reward

Morley was sentenced in 2025 to life imprisonment for a killing that took place in 2022; according to WKRN, the victim was Cody Birchfield. According to NewsNation, he additionally received a 67-year sentence for, among other things, destroying evidence, aggravated burglary, fleeing from police and vandalism.

The TBI has placed him on the state’s most wanted list. A reward of up to $2,500 has been offered for information leading to his arrest. The TDOC advises treating him as a dangerous person. Description given by authorities: 180 cm tall (5 ft 11 in), approx. 109 kg (240 lbs), brown hair, green eyes. People who spot him should not approach him, but instead call 911 or the TBI (1-800-TBI-FIND).

The search continues

According to WKRN, on Tuesday, October 27, the manhunt entered its third day, with local, state and federal agencies involved in the search. The Kentucky State Police, whose state borders western Tennessee, have been notified of the case and are cooperating with Tennessee authorities in case the fugitive reaches that state.

What it means

For readers in Poland, this is a news item: the case concerns the US only and has no connection to Polish correctional facilities. As of publication, there is no information about Morley’s capture.
