XTB is authorised in Cyprus to trade cryptocurrency spots

XTB has achieved an important milestone. Broker announced that he was authorized by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) to trade cryptocurrency spot. This event not only strengthens XTB's position on the market, but also fits into the framework of the EU Regulation Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MICA) which regulates cryptocurrency assets in the European Union.

Authorization Details

According to the approval of CySEC, XTB will act as a regulated Crypto-Asset Service Provider. This means that the company will fully comply with the MiCA requirements, which entered into force in late 2024 and aim to ensure security, transparency and investor protection in the cryptocurrency market. Under the Cypriot authorisation, XTB customers will gain access to cryptocurrency spot trading, allowing them to buy and sell digital assets directly without using derivatives.

XTB Limited, a subsidiary of XTB based in Cyprus, is 100% owned by the group and previously held a CySEC licence to provide brokerage services. The new authorisation extends these allowances to the cryptocurrency sector, allowing the company to offer integrated investment services within a single platform.

Importance to Investors and Market

This regulatory approval is a key step in the construction of the "universal investment application" by XTB. As highlighted in the official Communication, this will allow customers to invest effectively in diversified assets, including shares, currencies, raw materials and now also Crypto – all through an intuitive mobile application. In the context of the pressure on the cryptocurrency market, where digital asset prices are fluctuating, such a regulated offer may attract investors seeking safe and lawful solutions.

MiCA, as an EU regulation, imposes strict requirements on cryptocurrency service providers, including customer asset segregation, AML/KYC procedures (to counter money laundering and meet your client). Cyprus, as one of the key financial hubs in the EU, actively supports the implementation of these regulations, as can be seen from the launch of the initial application phase for CySEC cryptocurrency service providers in 2024.
