Prosecutors have released the results of an analysis of surveillance footage showing the final minutes of Left MP Łukasz Litewka’s life. Investigators examined recordings from several cameras along the route travelled by both the MP and the driver of the car that struck him.
The tragic accident occurred on 23 April 2026 on Kazimierzowska Street in Dąbrowa Górnicza. 36-year-old Łukasz Litewka was riding a bicycle when he was struck by a Mitsubishi Colt driven by a 57-year-old man.
What exactly do the recordings show?
Spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Sosnowiec, prosecutor Bartosz Kilian, confirmed that the analysis of the surveillance footage has been completed. The recordings show, among other things:
- Łukasz Litewka was riding with both hands on the handlebars of the bicycle.
- At the time of the incident, the MP was conducting a phone call through a headset (he was not holding a phone in his hand).
- Investigators have already questioned the person Litewka was speaking with just before the tragedy.
Analysis of the Mitsubishi driver’s phone also produced no new leads – he was not using a phone at the time of the accident. A toxicology report ruled out the presence of any substances affecting his abilities.
Prosecutors stress that the new materials have not changed the direction of the investigation or the charges brought against the 57-year-old.
The tragedy shook Poland’s political scene. Łukasz Litewka was one of the most socially respected Polish MPs.
The case continues to generate enormous emotion, and the details of the accident are being closely analysed by the media and the public.
