Police officers from Radom have detained 11 people suspected of organising staged collisions and fraudulently claiming motor insurance compensation in the Greater Poland and Świętokrzyskie voivodeships. Assets worth over PLN 2 million have been secured, and police announce further arrests are planned.
How the group operated
The case has been investigated for several months by the Economic Crime Department of the Voivodeship Police Headquarters in Radom. Based on the evidence gathered, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Radom opened an investigation covering the years 2018–2026.
According to police, the group operated according to a set scheme and division of roles. Vehicles were deliberately crashed into each other, and these incidents were then reported to insurance companies as genuine collisions. Those involved included people organising the incidents, car owners, and drivers who deliberately caused the crashes – police call them „stunt drivers” – and then left the scene. There were also people who formally took responsibility and provided false accounts of the circumstances.
Staged collisions involved high-value luxury cars, previously registered „on straw”, that is, in the names of people who were never their actual owners.
Arrests and seized assets
The arrests were carried out on 20 and 27 October at more than a dozen locations in the Świętokrzyskie and Greater Poland voivodeships. Counter-terrorism officers from Radom and experts in mechanoscopy from the Forensic Laboratory of the Voivodeship Police Headquarters assisted.
Eleven people aged between 24 and 48, including three women, were detained at their places of residence. Officers seized:
- vehicles worth approximately PLN 1 million, used in the fraudulent claims,
- PLN 432 thousand in cash,
- jewellery,
- documentation, as well as vehicles and components with traces of altered identification numbers.
Property security orders totalling over PLN 2 million were also issued.
Court decisions and next steps
The District Court in Radom ordered three months of pre-trial detention for one suspect. The remaining suspects were subject to non-custodial measures: property bail totalling over PLN 800 thousand, police supervision, and bans on contacting other suspects.
Participation in organising fictitious road incidents and fraudulently claiming compensation carries a penalty of up to 10 years in prison. Police stress that the case is ongoing and further arrests are planned. Those detained are presumed innocent.
