Col. Rafał Grzywiński has been removed as commander of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment in Bolesławiec and from the postgraduate Defence Policy Studies programme, known as the general’s course. As of publication, the Ministry of National Defence (MON) had not issued a statement on the matter.
What changed in command of the regiment
The news of Col. Grzywiński’s removal from the regiment’s command and from the studies was reported on Friday, 6 November, by the editors of Onet. The officer had commanded the unit since September 2024, when he took over from Col. Krzysztof Malankiewicz. The regiment in Bolesławiec is part of the 11th Lubusz Armoured Cavalry Division.
On Friday, at the MON headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of National Defence Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz handed officers decisions on their new service posts. Col. Grzywiński’s name does not appear in the lists published on X.
The case of a female soldier from Bolesławiec
The affair began with an Onet article published on 2 November. According to that outlet’s findings, a young female soldier from the 23rd Regiment claimed that a senior non-commissioned officer had abused his position and pressured her. After the case was reported, the woman was reportedly discharged from service. Onet also described correspondence that the regiment’s commander allegedly conducted regarding the soldier, a possible secondment, and further personnel decisions.
The non-commissioned officer facing the allegations was transferred to another post within the same battalion in July 2026 and is no longer her direct superior. The regiment’s spokesperson had earlier declined to answer questions, citing an ongoing investigation.
Earlier, Col. Grzywiński had been referred by the Defence Ministry to the general’s course. His removal from it means the officer will not take part in this career path toward promotion.
A similar case in Żagań
This is another personnel decision following reports of sexual harassment in the military. Earlier, after an article about a private from a unit in Żagań, Col. Jerzy Biryłko was struck from the list of participants in the general’s course.
As of publication, neither the MON nor the Land Forces Command had officially announced who has taken over the regiment in Bolesławiec or the reasons for the decision.
