A few days ago, a Maine Coon race cat, worth as much as $12,000, disappeared. The owner was convinced that the pet did not distance himself – and he was right. Thanks to the rapid intervention of the officers, the animal safely returned home, and the robber heard the charges. Mysterious disappearance of a racial pet
It all started a few days ago when the owner of the cat reported to the police station in Grójec. The animal, majestic Maine Coon with thick hair and distinctive appearance, freely walked on the fenced property and its surroundings. But he didn't come home this time. The owner immediately suspected the theft – the cat was too valuable and attached to its area to just escape. The value of the pet estimated at PLN 12,000 was derived not only from the breed, but also from its pedigree and unique qualities.
Maine Coon is one of the largest breeds of domestic cats, known for its friendly character, intelligence and impressive construction. Often called "mild giants", these cats are popular among breeders and animal lovers. In Poland, their price can reach up to several thousand zlotys, making them an attractive target for thieves. Unfortunately, the theft of racial animals is not uncommon – according to statistics, thousands of dogs and cats die every year, and only some of them return to their owners.
Rapid police action – monitoring key to success
The Grójc police did not wait. They immediately began the investigation, analyzing the footage from the surrounding security cameras. On one of them, you could see the car driver stopping at the street, getting off, walking to a cat near the fence, taking him and driving away. It's the key evidence that allowed officers to track down the vehicle and suspect.
A 33-year-old man was detained, and in his house police found Maine Coona missing. Fortunately, the cat was fine – he was in good condition and was immediately returned to the rightful owners. "Thanks to the efficient actions of police officers, the stolen cat returned to its lair," we read in the official announcement of the Mazovian police. The detainee heard a charge of theft, which threatens him for up to five years in prison.

Police encourage animal owners to label them with chips and record them in databases, making it easier to identify them in the event of missing persons.
