Poland Lose to Bulgaria in Nations League Thriller

Poland’s men’s volleyball team lost 3:2 to Bulgaria at the Nations League tournament in Gdańsk. The match featured plenty of twists and turns and delivered huge emotions for fans.

Poland’s False Start in Gdańsk

The match promised excitement from the very start. Poland went into the game against Bulgaria after a high-profile win over Iran, but also after an unexpected defeat to Cuba. This time coach Nikola Grbić decided to give a chance to several fresh players, including Bartosz Bednorz, who returned to play after a break.

The first set was almost a show of strength by the White and Reds – superiority in attack and effective blocking brought a convincing 25:17 win. It seemed fans could relax about the final result.

Bulgaria Shows Character

However, from the second set onward, the initiative began to shift to the Bulgarians. The Polish side made more and more simple errors, while their opponents capitalised on each chance. Bulgaria won the next sets 25:22 and 25:22, surprising even the most devoted fans.

Tie-break Worth Gold for Bulgaria

The fifth set was a true test of nerves for both teams. The Poles tried to get back into the game and took a narrow lead, but the Bulgarians remained effective in defence and attack to the end. The last point belonged to Simeon Nikolov, whose service ace ended the match. Final score: Poland – Bulgaria 2:3 (25:17, 22:25, 22:25, 29:27, 13:15).
