Poland’s women’s volleyball team failed to reach the Nations League final. After an exciting, though one-sided, semi-final in Łódź, our national team had to acknowledge the superiority of the unbeaten Italians, losing 0:3. On Sunday they will play for the bronze medal against the loser of the second semi-final.
A Quick Start, a Quick Reality Check
The White and Reds took to the court at the Atlas Arena confident and bold, even leading 4:0. Unfortunately, it was only a brief burst. The Italians quickly equalised and took control, showing why they had not lost a match for over a year. The sets ended clearly in their rivals’ favour (18:25, 16:25, 14:25).
A Message from Coach Lavarini
After the match, coach Stefano Lavarini did not shy away from responsibility: If you want to criticise someone, blame me. I don’t mind, it’s all my fault. But tomorrow we play to win – he stressed, motivating the team and taking the weight of the defeat on himself.
„It’s hard to compete when the Italians play at the level they are playing at today” – Lavarini summed up, taking the pressure off his players and pointing out that what matters is not so much the result itself, but strength of character and the ability to draw conclusions from difficult moments.
When Is the Next Match?
On Sunday our national side will have a chance at another Nations League medal – this will already be Poland’s third consecutive match for bronze in this event. Their opponent will be the loser of the second semi-final (Brazil – Japan).
