Saudi Arabia once again surprises the world. The NEOM project will create the world's first stadium suspended in the air – NEOM Stadium, which is to reach 350 metres above the ground and change the face of sport.
Stadium in Heaven – revolution from the desert
Saudi Arabia officially announced the construction of the world's first "Sky Stadium", a stadium floating in the air.NEOM Stadium will be located in the heart of the futuristic city of The Line, which forms part of a $500 billion NEOM project.
The facility is expected to cost about $1 billion and accommodate 46,000 viewers. The most impressive, however, is the fact that the arena will be as high as 350 metres above ground, integrated into the roof of a linear town 170 kilometres long.
Futuristic design
The project is responsible for the Danish studio Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG), known for its innovative architectural concepts. The stadium is to be made of mirror glass and ultralight materials to hang the entire structure above the desert.
Organic Power
The whole complex will be supplied with 100% renewable energy – mainly solar and wind. He will also use artificial intelligence to manage the flow of fans, energy and temperature.
Saudi Arabia is preparing to organize a mundial in2034,and the futuristic stadium in NEOM is to be one of its main facilities. Construction is expected to begin in 2027 and completion is planned for 2032 – just before the tournament begins.
After the championship, the stadium will become home to the local football team and a venue for concerts and global cultural events.
