Kenya: a pair "sealed in sin" instead of a doctor called the pastor [FILM]

An unusual event occurred in a small Kenyan town. A man and his lover were stuck together in a love act. Instead of medical assistance, a local pastor was called in – asking for forgiveness of sin.

Shocking case from Kenya

Do zdarzenia doszło w hrabstwie Kakamega, w zachodniej Kenii.

Witnesses, terrified and surprised, initially wanted to call an ambulance. However, the man's family refused for reasons of shame, suggesting rather "spiritual intervention".

Instead of a doctor, pray for forgiveness

A local pastor was called to the couple’s house, who was to "speak the prayer of purification from the sin of adultery." According to the accounts of local journalists, the clergy conducted prayers for several dozen minutes, after which the couple was separated and transported to the hospital for research.

Some sources suggest that the man suffered from so-called.penis captivus– a rare but medically documented phenomenon in which vaginal muscles tighten in such a way as to prevent separation of partners.

What is the phenomenon of "penis captivus"?

Though it may sound like an urban legend, penis captivushas been described repeatedly in medical literature. According to the British Medical Journal, it is a very rare case, usually passing spontaneously after a few minutes.

The most common causes are:

  • vaginal muscle spasm due to stress or pain,
  • strong emotional tension and adrenaline,
  • Nervous system disorders.

Today, doctors recommend a calm attitude and a lack of panic – most often the problem solves itself, and medical intervention can only be needed in exceptional situations.

Faith vs Science

In many parts of Africa, similar events are often interpreted as divine punishment or the effects of "love spells". Local communities still have a strong connection between health and spirituality. So the Kakamega case became another hot spot between science supporters and conservative religious leaders.

The pastor, who was called to the place, in an interview with Kenyan radio stated:

"It was not a medical case, but a sinful bond of souls by disobedience to God."

Social impact of the event

Historyszybko rozprzestrzeniła się w mediach społecznościowych, wywołując falę humorystycznych komentarzy, ale też debatę o roli edukacji seksualnej i świadomości zdrowotnej w regionie.

Experts from the University of Nairobi note that this is not the first time a clergy are called upon instead of doctors in intimate situations. Lack of access to health care and deeply rooted taboos make people look for spiritual, not medical explanations.
