15 August 2025 The eyes of the political world turned to Anchorage, where Presidents Trump and Putin sat for talks at Elmendorf-Richardson military base. They were accompanied by their closest advisors and translators. Their priority was the issue of ending the war in Ukraine, as well as the future shape of security in the region.

A joint statement – what are the demands of peace for Ukraine?

After several hours of negotiations, a long - awaited joint statement came to light. European leaders welcomed the US President's initiative, stressing that:

  • The purpose of the talks is to stop killing in Ukraine and end Russian aggression.
  • The security and territorial integrity of Ukraine must be inviolable – only Kiev decides its own borders.
  • Ukraine should be given strong safety guarantees from the US and allies.
