Scraping metal, screaming passengers and a sudden missing roof: that is how a Monday trip on double-decker route 100 ended in Eccles (Manchester, UK), when it struck a low bridge.
What happened on Barton Lane
At 15:00 BST on 21 July 2025, Stagecoach Service 100 double-decker bus left its regular route and crashed into the Bridgewater Canal Aqueduct bridge at the junction of Barton Lane and Trafford Road. The structure, with a clearance of 3.5 m, “sliced off” the upper deck like the lid of a tin can, throwing one passenger onto the road and causing panic among the travellers.
