The Minister of Energy has set maximum fuel prices for Thursday, 15 October: petrol 95 up to PLN 7.01, petrol 98 up to PLN 7.83, and diesel up to PLN 8.05 per litre. Petrol will therefore be slightly cheaper than on Wednesday, while diesel will be more expensive.
Comparison with Wednesday
The caps come from the Minister of Energy’s Wednesday announcement. On Wednesday, 14 October, the maximum price of petrol 95 was PLN 7.11 per litre, petrol 98 was PLN 8.01, and diesel was PLN 7.98.
On Thursday, petrol 95 may therefore cost up to 10 groszy less, petrol 98 up to 18 groszy less, and diesel up to 7 groszy more than the day before. Diesel is also above the 8 zloty per litre level, after the Wednesday cap was just below that threshold.
How the caps changed this week
On Tuesday, 13 October, the caps were PLN 7.06 for petrol 95, PLN 7.95 for 98 and PLN 8.02 for diesel, as we reported in our article on the maximum prices for Tuesday. The petrol 95 cap was therefore higher on Wednesday than on Tuesday, and on Thursday it falls but remains slightly higher than on 13 October. Diesel, after a slight drop on Wednesday, is back above PLN 8.
Where the caps come from
The maximum price announcements are part of the third stage of the “Fuel Prices Lower” (Ceny Paliwa Niżej, CPN) package. According to government assumptions, reported among others by Forsal, the package is to remain in force until the end of 2026, and its cost may reach about PLN 5 billion. The regulations allow excise duty and VAT on liquid fuels to be temporarily reduced, and financing is to come from a levy imposed on fuel companies earning above-average profits.
The next ministerial announcement is to be published on Tuesday and set prices for Friday.
What it means for drivers
The quoted amounts are an upper ceiling, not a mandatory price: stations may not sell fuel at a higher price, but they may set lower prices. For a 50-litre tank, filling up with diesel at the maximum price would cost up to PLN 402.50 on Thursday, which is PLN 3.50 more than at Wednesday’s cap (PLN 399). Filling a tank with petrol 95 would cost at most PLN 350.50, compared with PLN 355.50 on Wednesday.
The caps apply to stations across the country. It is worth comparing actual prices at a specific station with the cap, as they may be lower.
