In a Kanał Zero interview with Arleta Bojke, government spokesman Adam Szłapka discussed the state of public media and the controversy surrounding changes at Telewizja Polska (TVP). Is today’s television really “healed”?
Restoring the Constitutional Order
Adam Szłapka did not mince words. Asked whether the government’s takeover of TVP was about restoring the constitutional order, he answered briefly: “yes, I think so”. In his view, the intervention was necessary to put a stop to the lying propaganda known from previous years.
TVP then and now – a subjective comparison
Szłapka was adamant: today’s TVP cannot be compared to “Kurski’s television”. The latter, as he put it, was “a sewer of propaganda and disinformation”. Bojke, who knows the inner workings of both the former and current TVP, countered that the discussion is not black and white.
Behind the decision: politicians, lawyers, compromises
Arleta Bojke stressed that she has firsthand information and knows the accounts of lawyers and their attempts to find compromise solutions. In her view, these were rejected by Minister Sienkiewicz, who chose a harsher course. Szłapka said he is not aware of such details, but in his view the actions were necessary anyway for the “healing of the situation”.
Is it better today?
- Szłapka stressed that even if TVP is not perfect, “it cannot be compared to what came before”.
