Users of the mObywatel app have until November 16 to install version 4.93.1 or later. The reason is the renewal of the certificate used by the app.
What You Need to Do
The mObywatel team reminded users in a statement that by November 16 they must download the latest version of the app (4.93.1) from Google Play or the App Store. Those who already have this version or have automatic updates turned on do not need to do anything. The requirement also applies to the mObywatel Junior app, so parents should check their children’s phones.
The statement was published on the info.mobywatel.gov.pl website, and on Wednesday, November 5, it was also shared on X.
A similar post was published by the Central IT Centre (COI).
How to Check Your Version
The version number is in the app: go to the „More” tab, then the „About the app” section. You can also open the Google Play or App Store and check whether an update is available. If it is, you need to download it. If not, your phone has the latest version.
What Happens After November 16
According to COI, after this date the app will automatically notify the user that an update is required, and it will then be enough to download the new version from the store. The statement makes clear that this does not mean blocking the account or losing documents, but rather forcing the installation of the current version.
Why It Is Necessary
The change results from the renewal of a certificate. The mObywatel team describes this as a standard security-related measure for the app. In a separate statement for companies and institutions cooperating with the platform, the Ministry of Digital Affairs announced an update of the mObywatel domain certificate on November 16. Integrations that store a copy of the server certificate or enforce a specific certificate may stop working after this date. This part does not concern ordinary app users.
The app can also be used in other situations, e.g. when reporting a collision — we wrote about this in the article on the mStłuczka module in mObywatel.
