On Monday, 2 November, human remains in an advanced state of decomposition were found during the demolition of a garage at Narutowicza Street in Czechowice-Dziedzice. It has not been established whether they are connected to the disappearance of Karolina Wróbel in 2025 – DNA tests will show that.
According to local media reports, the remains were uncovered by an excavator operator working on a plot next to an abandoned building, near the railway tracks and a road viaduct. As the portal czecho.pl reported, police forensic technicians, a prosecutor and a forensic anthropologist worked at the scene, and the activities lasted many hours.
What the Authorities Confirm
The discovery was confirmed by Sub-Inspector Sławomir Kocur, press officer of the Bielsko-Biała Municipal Police Headquarters. According to czecho.pl, the District Prosecutor’s Office in Pszczyna confirmed the discovery of the remains of an unidentified person near Narutowicza Street and the opening of an investigation into a suspected crime. According to o2.pl, investigators from Katowice have also become involved in the case.
At this stage, it is not even possible to determine the sex of the person to whom the remains belong. Police have ordered expedited DNA tests – according to radiopiekary.pl, the result is expected within about two days. Investigators note that the remains were uncovered during excavator work, so it must be determined whether the digging moved parts of the evidence.
The Karolina Wróbel Case
24-year-old Karolina Wróbel disappeared on Friday, 3 January 2025. As Interia reports, she went to a shop in the evening and did not return. She is still listed as a missing person. A few days after her disappearance, Patryk B., a roommate and friend of Karolina’s brother, was detained; the prosecutor charged him with murder. He is the only person in this case with the status of a suspect. The presumption of innocence applies to him.
Dawid Burzacki, coordinator of the detective team involved in the search, told o2.pl that there are no results linking the remains to Karolina Wróbel. He added that until DNA results are available, such a link remains speculation. He also noted that the discovery does not necessarily have any connection with the proceedings against Patryk B.
The Family’s Voice
The missing woman’s father, Piotr Wróbel, told the media that no one has confirmed it is Karolina and that the family must wait for DNA results. According to o2.pl, he said: „The worst part is this uncertainty.” He also admitted that on one hand he is afraid of what they may learn.
What Comes Next
The key will be the results of genetic tests comparing material from the remains with the DNA of the missing woman’s family. If they rule out Karolina Wróbel, the discovery will remain a separate investigation into the remains of an unidentified person. If they confirm it, this may change the classification and course of the existing proceedings. As of publication, the prosecutor’s office has not officially given a date for results or the cause of death of the person whose remains were found.
Residents of Czechowice-Dziedzice can expect further activities by the authorities in the Narutowicza Street area, including securing the area around the site of the discovery.
