New law: Changes for bailiffs

In July 2025, President Andrzej Duda signed a bill raising the retirement age. But no – it's Not applicable all Poles, as it might seem after headlines. The change includes court bailiffs and bailiffs. From now on, they will be able to work until they are 70 instead of 65 years old..

Why the bailiffs?

The Ministry of Justice argued that earlier regulations introduced "discriminatory" rules for this group. Chambers were prevented from working after 65 years of age, while notaries could work up to 70 years of age, and attorneys and counsellors do not have an upper age limit. The amendment thus aligns the rules for legal professions.

What else is changing?

  • The maximum period of ventricular asessure (previously 6 years) is abolished.
  • The compatriot can now decide whether to retire at 65 or continue to work until he is 70 or even return to the profession after a temporary retirement.
  • Other employees (other than this group) retire unchanged: women – 60 years old, men – 65 years old.

Do ordinary Poles have anything to fear?

Nope. The retirement age for most citizens has not changed and continues to be 60 years for women and 65 years for men. President Andrzej Duda's decision of 2025 does not cover the whole country, but only a narrow professional group, which is often overlooked in media simplifications.
