Claude Guillemot, one of the five founding brothers of French gaming giant Ubisoft, has died. The co-creator of the iconic Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry series died on Friday, 19 June 2026, in a private aircraft crash in France. He was 69.
The tragedy occurred near La Baule (Loire-Atlantique department) during an approach to landing at La Baule-Escoublac airport. The eight-seat Cessna 421 crashed into a field. In addition to Claude Guillemot, a flight instructor also died.
Official confirmation
Ubisoft issued an official statement expressing deep sorrow:
„Ubisoft learned with great sadness of the death of Claude Guillemot, co-founder of the group and chairman of Guillemot Corp., as a result of an accident. Our thoughts are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
Claude Guillemot founded Ubisoft together with his brothers in 1986 in Brittany. The company grew over time into one of the largest game publishers in the world, responsible among others for the Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry, Rainbow Six and Watch Dogs series.
The gaming world is saying farewell to one of the key figures in its history.
