The new chapter – man overcomes artificial intelligence. Polish creativity has shown that even the best algorithms do not match our ingenuity. Meet the scenes of success that delighted the world!
Pole defeated AI – what happened?
The whole technological world wipes the eyes of amazement. Przemysław "Psyho" Dębiak, one of the best Polish programmers, won the prestigious AtCoder World Tour Finals final – an international tournament in which people competed with a representative of artificial intelligence from OpenAI. So far, only machines have prevailed in such a clash, but it was Pole who outsmarted one of the most powerful AIs in the world.
Humanity has won (for now!)
I'm completely exhausted. For the last three days, I've slept 10 hours and I'm barely alive.
I'll write more about the contest when I get some rest.
(To be clear, these are preliminary results, but my advantage should be large enough). – Przemysław "Psyho" Dębiak
The success of Dębiak was not an accident. At AtCoder World Tour Finals, players must solve complex algorithmic tasks requiring not only knowledge, but also an unspeakable and creative approach. Artificial intelligence has led the ranking for a long time – it was expected to win. But it was "Psyho" who found unobvious solutions that AI could not predict. As he said, the key was human ingenuity, which still cannot be programmed.
Official announcement of the results of the contest
Update: live and well
The results are already official and my advantage over AI increased from 5.5% to 9.5%
Honestly, that noise is a little weird. I never expected so many people to be interested in programming competitions. I guess that means I should come in here more often.
AI is based on powerful models that analyze data and look for the best strategies. However, they are helpless with tasks requiring intuition or unspeakable associations.
The programmer uses analogies just as the chess player sees unobvious movements.
It can look at the problem "from another side" and adjust the solution to the situation.
Unlike the algorithm, not only follows instructions, but improvises.
What does a Pole's victory mean?
The win by Przemysław Dębiak has echoed widely in the IT industry worldwide. Congratulations even sent him Sam Altman, head of OpenAI – the company behind the powerful ChatGPT. Experts emphasize that this is not only the success of the individual, but also a reminder: human creativity and flexibility can still overtake machines.
It is worth adding that the Polish AI sector is developing rapidly. In the world, solutions of companies such as ElevenLabs are known and Poland is fifth in the EU in terms of the number of scientific publications about AI. This means that the success of Dębiak is not an exception, but the effect of the entire ecosystem.
