How to read NBP courses? Practical Guide

Table A of the NBP contains average rates which are the benchmark for currency conversion but are not the rates at which you will exchange at the bank or the currency exchange. Table C includes purchase and sales rates — the purchase rate is the price at which the bank or currency acquires currency from you, while the sales rate is the price at which you must pay when you want to buy currency. When you go to the exchange office or via a foreign transfer, always pay attention to the sales rate if you want to know how much you will actually pay for the currency. The difference between the rate of purchase and sales, called spread, is the profit of the intermediary — The smaller the spread, the more favorable the exchange from your point of view.

Currency Trivia of the Day

Swiss franc has been one of the safest currencies in the world for decades. — in times of global uncertainty, investors are willing to put savings in it, which is sometimes called the effect of a "safe marina". Switzerland is not part of the euro area or the European Union, and its banking system and its low inflation historically attracted capital from around the world. This is why the Swiss franc is often more expensive to other currencies in moments of increased tension in financial markets, regardless of what happens directly in the Swiss economy.
