Pellet Prices Up From a Year Ago as Buyer Interest Grows

The average price of a tonne of pellets in OLX listings was PLN 1,979 in September, compared with PLN 1,748 a year earlier, while interest in the fuel rose 43%. Wholesale median prices already reach about PLN 2,400 per tonne.

The OLX data was reported by Bankier.pl, citing information from „Fakt”. In September, more than 101 thousand users searched for pellets on the platform – 43% more than a year earlier and 75% more than in September 2024. Already in August, about 77 thousand people viewed the category, while in August 2024 and 2025 the figure was between 49 and 53 thousand.

Listing Prices: September Up 13%

According to OLX, the average price of a tonne in August 2026 was PLN 1,951 (a year earlier: PLN 1,268), and in September it was PLN 1,979 (a year earlier: PLN 1,748). This means an increase of PLN 231, or about 13% year on year. The scale of the increase therefore depends heavily on the month being compared – in August the difference was much larger.

The number of offers also grew: in August, 9,332 pellet listings appeared on OLX, compared with 1,812 a year earlier. An OLX representative links earlier purchases to high prices and concerns about fuel availability.

Wholesale: Median Around PLN 2,400 per Tonne

Listing prices are not shop prices. According to the PelletAlert index, the median of wholesale offers from 33 shops in the week of 5–11 October was PLN 2,405 per tonne. Data from this service dated 14 October, cited by Forsal.pl, shows that the median across 168 offers from 38 shops was PLN 2,393, the cheapest offer cost PLN 1,846, and the most expensive PLN 3,000. An earlier PelletAlert report from 4 October gave a median of PLN 2,410, only slightly more than now – a week before that it was PLN 2,451 (data from dobrzemieszkaj.pl). The market is therefore not rising at the pace seen over the summer.

According to the Dla Handlu portal, at the beginning of October a tonne most often cost PLN 2,100–2,500, and in some offers up to PLN 2,800. A 15 kg bag in shops costs about PLN 35–40, which works out to PLN 2,333–2,667 per tonne.

What Is Driving the Increases

According to a UOKiK analysis cited by „Fakt”, demand for pellets – supported among other things by the „Clean Air” (Czyste Powietrze) programme – exceeded the supply of wood raw material. At the end of September, Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka said the government was talking with importers about increasing pellet deliveries to Poland.

What It Means for Boiler Owners

At the wholesale median of about PLN 2,393 per tonne, a stock of 3 tonnes costs about PLN 7,200 and 4 tonnes about PLN 9,600, excluding transport. OLX prices (about PLN 1,979 per tonne) are lower, but they are an average of listings, not a guarantee of availability at that rate. Buying single bags is the most expensive option; a pallet or bulk delivery usually lowers the price per tonne. It is worth comparing several sellers, factoring in delivery, and being wary of offers that are clearly cheaper than market prices – many fake listings appear before the season.
