The Polish Energy Exchange (TGE) summed up September: electricity and gas prices are rising, and the electricity contract for delivery in 2027 is the most expensive since 2023. The government says it does not plan tariff increases, but the final decision will be made by the Energy Regulatory Office (URE).
According to the TGE summary, as described by “Rzeczpospolita”, the average electricity price on the Day-Ahead Market reached PLN 666.68/MWh in September, which is PLN 83.02/MWh more than in August. The annual contract for 2027 (BASE_Y-27) cost an average of PLN 555.77/MWh, PLN 60.25/MWh more than a month earlier. Both indicators are the highest since 2023.
Gas fuels the price surge
Gas also became more expensive. The average spot market price in September was PLN 344.35/MWh (+PLN 64.13/MWh m/m). The 2027 contract (GAS_BASE_Y-27) cost an average of PLN 266.23/MWh, PLN 52.03/MWh more than in August. Analysts cite more expensive CO2 emission allowances, higher gas prices on the European market and the war in the Middle East among the causes. According to Andrzej Kędzierski, an analyst at BM Pekao, the cost of generating energy from gas currently exceeds PLN 700/MWh.
What about 2027 tariffs
For households, the annual contract is key, as it is the reference point when URE reviews tariff applications. The current average energy price in tariffs is about PLN 495/MWh net. It was set when the 2026 contract cost an average of PLN 431/MWh in 2025. Some market analyses, including those from BM Pekao, assume in one scenario a 2027 tariff of around PLN 590/MWh, or about 19% more. This is a forecast, not a decision.
Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka recently told “Parkiet” that the government does not plan price increases. TGE President Piotr Listwoń points out that energy companies contracted electricity 2–3 years in advance at an average price of about PLN 450/MWh, which URE may take into account in its calculations. However, PLENTRA analyst Kamil Moskwik stresses that if high quotations persist, the regulator’s room for manoeuvre will be limited. The tariff price depends on the companies’ entire purchasing portfolio, not just a single contract.
URE approved the 2026 tariffs on 17 December 2025. The level of rates for 2027 is not yet known.
Gas tariff and Orlen
Orlen Vice President Robert Soszyński said a few days ago that if current gas prices are maintained, the company will submit a request to URE for a 2027 gas tariff increase. Orlen later softened this message. It said that this was one of the possible scenarios and that, at this stage, it is too early to predict the outcome of the tariff proceedings.
What it means
The 2027 tariffs are not yet approved, so current electricity and gas bills based on tariffs are not changing. Households on dynamic tariffs will feel higher Day-Ahead prices immediately, as their bills depend on exchange quotations. People with contracts outside the URE tariff may look for offers with a fixed price for 2–3 years, but should check trading fees, which may rise depending on the contract. From 1 October 2026, the bill structure also changes: the subscription fee will be charged by the seller, not the distributor. URE describes this as a shift of cost, not a new fee.
