In the Polish political landscape, where tensions between the government and the head of state reach zenit, President Nawrocki's decision to veto the crypto-activist market law became a spark planted under a powder keg. On Monday, December 1, 2025, Nawrocki refused to sign a project to implement the EU MiCA Regulation (Markets in Crypto-Assets). He argued that the bill threatens civil liberties, allowing the government to "disable" cryptocurrency websites with one click. This veto – the 17th in just 120 days of presidency – caused a storm: Donald Tusk's government accuses of lobbying, the opposition applauds, and the cryptic industry ranges between relief and fears of legal chaos. In this heated discussion, he paid particular attention to a passage of the debate on Channel Zero, where the viewer shared a personal trauma from the unregulated market.
Record veto: The President as a "watchman of freedom" or "source of chaos"?
Karol Nawrocki, elected in the presidential election of 2025 with the support of nearly 11 million votes, does not hide his reform ambitions. In four months he blocked 17 laws, beating the pace of his predecessor Andrzej Duda (19 wet in 10 years). In addition to crypto-activists, the basket included projects on national parks, dog chains and aid to Ukrainians. Presidential spokesman Rafał Leśkiewicz stressed: "Weto is applied only when regulations threaten the freedom, property and stability of the state". The government opposes harshly – Prime Minister Tusk called the decision "undefensible", and Finance Minister Adam Domański warns against "Cryptoafer", which exposes millions of investors to risk.
Opposition, including PiS and Confederation, celebrates. Sławomir Mentzen from the Confederacy wrote on X: "President Nawrocki vetoed a bill destroying the Polish cryptocurrency market! It's a great decision.‘. According to the project critics, the bill was too restrictive: it imposed excessive powers on the Financial Supervision Commission (KNF), including blocking sites without a court judgment. Industry, represented by the Polish Chamber Blockchain and New Technologies, welcomes veto with relief, but experts warn: delaying the implementation of MiCA (over 11 months) may prompt companies to transfer licences abroad, giving control of a $20 billion market to other EU countries.
Debate on Channel Zero: Politicians vs Reality
Tuesday, December 3, 2025, Zero Channel – Krzysztof Stanowski's flagship project, known for its uncompromising debates, devoted his evening broadcast to Nawrocki's veto. Joanna Pinkwart's discussion gathered representatives of all options at the round table: Patryka Jaskulski (KO), Paweł Jabłoński (PiS), Michał Grammar (Polish-2020/"title="Poland 2050">Poland 2050), Wymysław Wiplera (Confederation) and Paulina Piechna-Sożekiewicz (Left).
The guests shared like a kaleidoscope of polarization. Jaskulski thundered about the "president of chaos", carrying out the "Kaczyński mission" against Tusk. Jabłoński defended: "The President vetoes stupid laws and proposes better – he has 13 legislative initiatives on his record!". Grammar appealed for consultation, Wipler ironically over the "patronic" government, and Piechna-Wożekiewicz saw in vetoes an attempt to undermine the constitution. Debate, broadcast live, attracted tens of thousands of viewers, emphasizing how the crypto – once niche theme – became a political battle.
"Interesting call from the viewer": Trauma from the unregulated market
The culmination of the evening was a call from a viewer who shook the studio. A man identified as a crypto investor shared a personal story:
„Because of the lack of regulation, I lost one of the largest cryptocurrency companies in Poland. This is not a coincidence – an unregulated segment is a paradise for fraudsters„.
He described how bitomats (Bitcoin vending machines) are mainly used for money laundering and transactions from the dark net:
„85% of their use is bad stuff. I've seen suicides, exit scams and illegal casinos.„.
He called for immediate implementation of the Act:
"Weto blocks development and we lose billions. Regulation is protection, not censorship".
The studio reaction was electrifying. Pinkwart asked for details, highlighting contrast with industry veto enthusiasts. Wipler, a libertarian Confederate voice, nodded with understanding: "It proves that without supervision the market becomes a wild sunset‘. Jaskulski used the moment to attack: "The president vetoes security for people like you!‘. Jabłoński counter-rgumented that the presidential alternative project would better balance innovation with security. The phone, which lasted less than 6 minutes, became a virale – a post on X from @OfficialZero collected more than 40,000 views, provoking a wave of comments from sarcasm ("Let's ban the parcels, because cheaters send bricks!") for serious analyses ("Crypto is not anonymous, but cheaters are not caught without regulation").
What next for the Polish code?
Veto Nawrocki prolongs the deadlock: without the bill Poland will not implement MiCA by June 2026, risking EU sanctions and capital outflow. The Tusk government is considering re-assigning the project to the Sejm.
