President Karol Nawrocki sharply criticized Volodymyr Zelensky and the policy of the Ukrainian authorities. According to the president, the actions and statements of the Ukrainian president seriously damage Polish-Ukrainian relations and objectively help Russian propaganda.
In an official statement delivered today in front of the Presidential Palace and published on prezydent.pl, Nawrocki stated directly that the Ukrainian president “has given a great deal of oxygen to Russian propaganda”. The criticism concerns above all Kyiv’s lack of respect for Polish history and the continuing glorification in Ukraine of criminals responsible for the genocide committed against Poles in Volhynia and Eastern Lesser Poland.
President Nawrocki stressed that Poland has for years extended a hand to Ukraine and supported it in its war with Russia, yet in return it meets with growing arrogance and a lack of willingness to come to terms with a difficult history.
“A common future cannot be built on lies and the worship of murderers. Poland has had enough of a situation in which the Banderite massacre of thousands of Polish civilians is either passed over in silence or glorified by part of the Ukrainian elite” – President Nawrocki reportedly said directly during talks.
The president’s statement reflects the growing fatigue and frustration in Polish society. More and more Poles openly say that the limit of patience with Ukraine’s disrespect for the Volhynia victims has been crossed.
Many commentators assess that this is one of the sharpest statements by a Polish president directed at Zelensky since the start of the full-scale war.

The main issue is giving Ukrainian combat units the names of UPA commanders responsible for the genocide of the Polish civilian population during the Volhynia massacre. When Volodymyr Zelensky not only failed to condemn this practice, but in effect accepted or downplayed it, Warsaw regarded this as crossing another line. President Nawrocki concluded that further silence would amount to acceptance of shameful glorification of murderers, and decided to publicly say “enough” – sending a clear signal that Poland will no longer tolerate the open worship of the perpetrators of genocide against its citizens.
