President Karol Nawrocki strongly criticized Volodymyr Zelenski and the policy of Ukrainian authorities. According to the President, the actions and statements of the President of Ukraine seriously harm Polish-Ukrainian relations and objectively help Russian propaganda.
In an official statement made today in front of the presidential palace and published on the President.pl website, Nawrocki stated that the President of Ukraine "delivered much oxygen to Russian propaganda". The criticism is primarily about Kiev's disrespect for Polish history and the continued glorification in Ukraine of criminals responsible for genocide committed in Poles in Volyn and Eastern Małopolska.
President Nawrocki stressed that Poland has been reaching out to Ukraine for years and supporting it in the war with Russia, but in return it meets with increasing arrogance and lack of readiness to settle with difficult history.
"You cannot build a common future by lying and worshiping murderers. Poland has had enough of the situation in which the bander murder on thousands of Polish civilians is either silenced or glorified by some Ukrainian elites" – he was supposed to convey directly during talks President Nawrocka.
The President's statement reflects the growing fatigue and frustration in Polish society. More and more Poles openly say that the limit of patience with Ukrainian lack of respect for Volyn victims has been exceeded.
Many commentators believe that this is one of the strongest statements of the Polish President to Zelenski since the beginning of the full-scale war.
President Karol Nawrocki made such a harsh statement as a direct and decisive response to the recent controversial decisions of the Ukrainian authorities. It is primarily about giving Ukrainian combat units names of UPA commanders responsible for genocide on Polish civilian population during the Volyn massacre. When Volodymyr Zelenski not only did not condemn this practice, but in practice accepted it or underestimated it, in Warsaw this was considered to be a crossing of another border. President Nawrocki felt that further silence would be an acceptance of the shameful glorification of murderers and decided to publicly say "enough" – giving a clear signal that Poland would no longer tolerate the public worship of perpetrators of genocide on its citizens.
