TN Polska plans mass layoffs in Kraśnik, union says plant will be closed

The company TN Polska has notified the labour office in Kraśnik of its intention to carry out mass layoffs. According to the plant’s trade union, the company’s “Solidarity” branch, 255 people are affected and the plant in Kraśnik, which employs about 400 workers, will be shut down.

Notification at the labour office

Krzysztof Grzegorczyk, director of the District Labour Office in Kraśnik, confirmed that the office had received a notification of intended mass layoffs at TN Polska sp. z o.o., based in Kraśnik. He described them as concerning “a fairly large group of employees”. He did not give an exact number in his statement.

255 jobs and plant closure

Stanisław Szczygielski, chairman of the plant’s “Solidarity” union branch, said the company intends to lay off 255 people and close the plant in Kraśnik. The workforce learned of this during a teleconference with the company’s management. The union representative said management and the employee side have already agreed on a schedule of talks. The first meeting is scheduled for November 12.

About 400 people work at the plant. An anonymous employee told Radio Lublin that unease prevails among the workforce and that people are asking about severance pay and how much it will be. They also noted that entire families sometimes work at the factory.

Production to move to other group plants

Responding to questions from Radio Lublin, the company justified the decision by citing a global restructuring and the need to improve competitiveness. Production is to be gradually transferred to other plants within the group. According to this information, the phasing out of production in Kraśnik is expected to last until September next year.

Who is TN Polska

The company operates on the site of the former Kraśnik Friction Elements Plant (Zakład Elementów Tocznych Kraśnik), which was acquired in 2003 by the American firm Hoover Precision Products. That same year the plant was renamed Tsubaki-Hoover Polska, and in 2018 it became TN Polska. It produces rolling elements for bearings.

As of publication, we do not know of any company statement giving the number of positions affected by the layoffs. The mayor of Kraśnik has announced intervention.
